What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase Scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use Scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our church. There is no additional cost to you.
How Scrip generates revenue for you
Scrip Service Centers act on behalf of churches, schools and other non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of Scrip (gift cards) from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the Scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our church buys the Scrip at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families for full face value. The discount – from two to twenty-five percent or more – is our church’s revenue.
Scrip is “shopping cart fundraising”
Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Families generate revenue for St. Juan Diego by making regular household purchases they would make anyway.
An example of how using Scrip benefits our church ~
Food $75/week x 4 = $300/month
Clothing = $ 50/month
Gas $25/week x 4 = $100/month
Dining out = $ 50/month
Total $500/month x 12 months = $6000/year
So, at an average 5% profit, an average family using these modest spending levels would generate $300 each year. Just imagine how much we would raise if EVERY family used SCRIP for their grocery, dining, gasoline, shoes & clothing, school supplies, haircuts, athletic equipment, pet products, home improvement projects and travel purchases!
How do I purchase Scrip?
SCRIP is sold after all Masses. You can find SCRIP volunteers in the Narthex.
All you have to do is fill out an order form. You can find these online at stjuandiego.org (Click on Resources, then Forms, and select SCRIP Order Form). Forms are also available in the Narthex. Bring or send the completed form to the church office with check made payable to St. Juan Diego SCRIP.
When should I expect my Scrip purchase?
Orders placed on Tuesday will be available to pick up at the Saturday/Sunday masses. If you are not able to pick up your order after Mass and need the SCRIP other arrangements can be made. Just contact us via email or by phone.
