Sacrament of Confirmation: Thursday, May 10 at 7 PM at St. Juan Diego Church.

What is Confirmation? One of the Sacraments of Initiation into the Church, together with Baptism and Eucharist. "Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seal or 'confirm' the baptized union with Christ and equip them for active participation in the worship and apostolic life of the Church." (Catechism of the Catholic Church -glossary)

Confirmation at St. Juan Diego Church.  Confirmation is open to all High School Youth who have not yet been Confirmed. Must be a baptized Catholic to be Confirmed. Please provide baptism certificate with registration. Classes will be held on the following dates: Oct 9, Nov 13, Dec 11, Jan 7 (Saturday all day retreat) , Feb 12, March 11, and April 15 from 10:30-11:30 at PCC in Building 2, and May 20 from 5:30-6:30 at the church. The date for the celebration of the sacrament will be in spring 2012. We do ask for a $25 fee to cover the additional cost of the sacramental preparation. Anyone interested in helping with our Confirmation program should contact Bridget Becker, Director of Faith Formation, at bbecker (at) stjuandiego.org. Registration Deadline is September 19, 2011.

Requirements:

  • Baptized Catholic
  • A copy of the Baptism Certificate is required
  • Registered member of the parish
  • Confirmation candidates must attend at least 6 out of 7 sessions, allowing for sickness and emergencies.
  • Letter to be written to Fr. Kerns explaining why they want to be confirmed and what Confirmation means to them.
  • Monthly homework, for example the Candidates will interview their sponsors.
  • Sponsors cannot be a parent; must be over 16 and been confirmed; actively practicing our Catholic faith. (Code of Canon Law, #874)
  • Attend a Confirmation retreat. Our retreat will be Saturday, January 7, 2012 (all day retreat)
  • One Community Service project and be involved in Youth Group

Guidelines:

  • Building relationships between youth and parish community.
  • Catechesis.
  • Faith Formation.
  • Participation in the Mission and Ministry of the Church.
  • Involvement of parents and sponsors in the preparation.
  • Enable candidates to come to a well-formed decision concerning Confirmation.
