|Fr. Terry O’Connell, Pastor (e-mail)
Father Terry O’Connell was born in 1954 in Minot, N.D. He earned a BS at the University of Oregon and a master of divinity at Mount Angel Seminary. He served as a deacon in 1991 at St. Anne, Gresham and was ordained at St. Mary Cathedral in Portland in 1992. He served as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Medford (1992-95); as misionero at Mision Santo Nino de Atocha (1992-95); as military chaplain on leave from the archdiocese in Guantanamo, Cuba (1995); pastor at St. Monica, Coos Bay (1995-2001); and was priest moderator at Good Shepherd Parish in Sheridan and St. Michael Parish in Grand Ronde and pastor at St. James in McMinnville (2001- 2013). He came to St. Juan Diego as pastor in July, 2013.
|Deacon Dennis Desmarais (e-mail)
Deacon Dennis has been a member of the parish since the very first Mass. He and his wife Marci have been involved in high school youth ministry, baptism prep and RCIA at St. Juan Diego. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese in 2008. He has a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and a degree in mechanical engineering. He has worked in the electric power industry all his career. Deacon Dennis and his wife have three grown sons.
|Adriel Algiene, Parish Coordinator of Music (e-mail)
Adriel Algiene recently escaped the unyielding heat of Las Vegas and arrived in Portland, OR in August of 2015. He has been playing piano from the age of 10, working in Liturgical music from the age of 15, and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Classical Piano Performance from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. While living in Nevada, he became the Assistant Music Director of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Mr. Algiene is also a Private Piano teacher and vocal coach who has worked with a number of ensembles, choirs, and conductors. His hobbies include walking his dog, reading books, geeking out over Doctor Who, Star Wars, and The Avengers, and listening to many, many different types of music. He is very grateful for the opportunity to join St. Juan Diego Parish.
|Jean DeLaney, Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry (e-mail)
Jean DeLaney is originally from Woodbridge, New Jersey and moved to McMinnville, Oregon with her family in 1987. She was a public school educator (1974 – 2006), employed as a primary classroom teacher, reading specialist, and special education teacher. She served as the part-time Director of Religious Education at St. James Parish in McMinnville (1998 – 2002), and as Coordinator of Children’s Ministry at St. Clare Parish in Portland (2006 – 2015). Her son, James, is in the process of completing the Master of Arts Developmental Psychology at Portland State University.
|Peggy Brice, Business Manager (e-mail)
Peggy Brice brings a combination of financial and pastoral experience. With a BBA in Finance, Peggy has worked in the fields of insurance, accounting, and retirement planning, but her heart has always been with her work for the church. She has been active in parishes for years ranging from high school youth ministry and Confirmation to serving on Pastoral Councils. She also has prior staff experience as a Parish Coordinator and Youth Minister. Peggy and her husband, Kevin have three grown daughters and three grandsons.
|Jeny Velazques-Samayoa, Administrative Assistant (e-mail)
Jeny Velazquez-Samayoa was born in Guatemala. She immigrated to the US in 1998 with her family when she was seven years old. Ever since she moved to the US she has lived in Beaverton/Aloha area.
Jeny went back to Guatemala in 2005 for 4 years. Later in August of 2009 she moved back to Oregon making it her permanent home. She is bilingual in Spanish & English and is currently attending PCC and is working on her prerequisites to enter to X-ray school where she will become a Radiology Technician and hoping to move on up to MRI. Jeny and her husband, Gonzalo enjoy the outdoors. Some of her favorite hobbies are running, hiking and reading.
|Jeff Eirvin, Maintenance and Facilities
Jeff Eirvin is a retired engineer from Intel corporation and has been a parishioner since the inception of St. Juan Diego Church. He has volunteered as an usher, Eucharistic minister, Capital Campaigns and other opportunities. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Portland Serra Club and the American Legion. He is married to JoAnn and has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren.
